View original imagePublic parking lots have been operated for free, but long-term habitual parking vehicles have prevented residents who actually need parking from using them, causing significant inconvenience. Although public parking lots are being expanded every year to alleviate parking difficulties, the increase in long-term parking and abandoned vehicles in free parking lots has rendered the parking facilities ineffective, causing inconvenience to citizens.
Accordingly, the city plans to gradually increase the paid parking system in public parking lots to establish parking order and promote the use of public transportation.
First, the city will promote the conversion to paid parking within this year for 978 spaces across 12 public parking lots with high usage rates located in congested urban residential and commercial areas, and plans to gradually expand this to public parking lots located in central commercial and semi-commercial areas.
By region, these include ▲ Uichang-gu 3 locations: Changwon Jungang Station 150 spaces, Jung-dong 74 spaces, Myeongseo-dong 70 spaces ▲ Seongsan-gu 3 locations: Ungnam Industrial Complex 232 spaces, Towolcheon Intersection 36 spaces, Yongho Village 70 spaces ▲ Masanhappo-gu 1 location: Wolyeong Village 64 spaces ▲ Masanhoewon-gu 2 locations: Guam 1-dong 72 spaces, Guam 2-dong 25 spaces ▲ Jinhae-gu 3 locations: Cheongan-dong 129 spaces, Pungho-dong 29 spaces, Jungang-dong 27 spaces.
Currently, Changwon City has 840 public parking lots (36,640 spaces). Among them, 91 locations (7,526 spaces) are paid, and the remaining 749 locations (29,114 spaces) are free. According to the ‘Changwon City Parking Lot Installation and Management Ordinance,’ the parking fee for public parking lots is 500 KRW for the first 30 minutes, with an additional 200 KRW charged every 10 minutes thereafter, and a maximum daily fee of 6,000 KRW. The fees collected from public parking lots are extensively used for the construction and maintenance of new public parking lots.
Meanwhile, the city has been promoting the phased introduction of paid parking for free public parking lots since last year, and the public parking lots in front of Masan Health Center and Suchi Village have been operated as paid parking since the end of last year.
