Daegu City to Supply 4,204 Eco-Friendly Vehicles This Year... Electric Passenger Car Subsidy of 8.3 Million Won Provided
Daegu City announced on the 5th that it will distribute 4,204 eco-friendly vehicles this year. Applications will be accepted starting from the 6th. Two-wheeled vehicles are scheduled to be implemented in March.
This year, the total private distribution of eco-friendly vehicles is 4,204 units, including 3,477 electric vehicles, 694 two-wheeled vehicles, and 33 hydrogen vehicles. Subsidies will be prioritized for converting taxis, old diesel vehicles, and children's school transportation vehicles, which have a high effect on improving air quality, to electric vehicles. Among the 3,477 electric vehicles, there are 2,970 passenger cars, 500 cargo vehicles, and 7 buses.
Subsidies vary by vehicle type, with a maximum of 8.3 million KRW for electric passenger cars, 13.6 million KRW for small electric cargo vehicles, and 60 million KRW for medium electric buses, including national and local government funds.
Hydrogen passenger cars receive a fixed subsidy of 32.5 million KRW, but subsidies are restricted for high-priced electric passenger cars (over 85 million KRW).
Due to the Ministry of Environment's subsidy guideline revision, changes from last year include an additional 20% national subsidy support for any youth purchasing their first-ever electric passenger car (previously limited to those below the near-poverty line), expanding the benefits. Additionally, farmers purchasing electric cargo vehicles can receive an extra 10% national subsidy.
Furthermore, for eco-friendly vehicle tax support, individual consumption tax is exempted up to 5% of the vehicle price, education tax up to 30% of the individual consumption tax, acquisition tax up to 7% of the vehicle price, and urban railroad bonds are exempted up to 2.5 million KRW.
Other benefits to promote eco-friendly vehicle distribution include a 40% discount on highway tolls, toll discounts on Daegu City’s paid roads (Beoman-ro, Apsan Tunnel Road), and a 60% discount on parking fees at Daegu City public parking lots.
Meanwhile, Daegu City's eco-friendly vehicle distribution project started in 2011 targeting public institutions to improve air quality and realize an eco-friendly city, and has expanded to the private sector since 2016.
Up to last year, a total of 47,290 eco-friendly vehicles have been distributed, and as of the end of last year, electric vehicles account for 3.29% of registered vehicles in Daegu (national average 3.14%).
