Suncheon City: "Wish for Good Fortune on Jeongwol Daeboreum at Naganeupseong"

Traditional Events Including Torchlight Parade Around the Fortress and Daljip Burning

Suncheon City (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that it will hold the "2025 Suncheon Nakan-eupseong Jeongwol Daeboreum Festival" on the 12th.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. with a memorial ceremony for General Kim Bin-gil, followed by the setting up of Jangseung and Sotdae, sharing of Tteokguk and Injeolmi, Dangsan Ritual, traditional performances, a large-scale tug-of-war, torchlight parade around the fortress, and burning of the Daljip in sequence.

For the torchlight parade around the fortress, about 300 visitors will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis to carry torches and walk around the fortress, experiencing the tradition together, before gathering in front of the Daljip set up at the festival ground to conclude the event.

During the subsequent Daljip burning ceremony, visitors to Suncheon Nakan-eupseong and the Deep-rooted Tree Museum will burn wish papers, praying for everyone's wishes and prosperity.

Additionally, on the day of the event at the Nakan-eupseong festival ground, visitors can enjoy traditional folk games such as Jegichagi, Tuho, Yutnori, and Biseokchigi. Throughout Nakan-eupseong, there will also be hands-on experiences with straw crafts, blacksmithing, wood carving, and a Borimgut performance by the Nakan Folk Nongak Troupe.

A city official stated, "The Nakan-eupseong Jeongwol Daeboreum Festival is a source of pride for local residents with a long history, and it serves to strengthen unity and harmony among the people of Nakan-myeon. For visitors, it will be a meaningful time to experience traditional seasonal customs and wish for a year of peace and happiness." The official added, "On the day when the biggest and brightest moon rises, we hope it will be a precious time to wish for health and prosperity with family."

Meanwhile, the Jeongwol Daeboreum Festival is jointly prepared and held by various organizations and residents of Nakan-myeon, including the Nakan-eupseong Preservation Association, Nakan-myeon Village Head Association, Nakan-myeon Women's Association, Nakan-myeon Volunteer Fire Brigade, and Nakan-myeon Youth Association.
