BISTEP Selected as Leading R&D Support Group for 3 Consecutive Years

Promoting Regional Innovation Growth through Linking Core Industries, Policy Formulation, and Project Planning
Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP, Director Kim Young-bu) solidified its position as a control tower for regional research and development innovation by being selected as a Leading Research and Development Support Group for the third consecutive year on the 24th.
Through this selection, BISTEP secured 490 million KRW in national funding, achieving significant results in leading scientific and technological innovation in Busan.
The Research and Development Support Group aims to strengthen the foundation for regionally led research and development through investigation, analysis, evaluation, establishment of region-specific policies, project planning, and operation of cooperative networks. It is operated by 17 metropolitan local governments nationwide, and Busan has been managed by BISTEP since 2015.
The newly selected Leading Research and Development Support Group plays a crucial role in accelerating regional innovation by strengthening links with national science and technology policies, targeting institutions with excellent innovation capabilities. BISTEP has continuously produced results such as research and development planning linked to Busan’s strategic industries, cooperation among regional innovation actors, and customized policy formulation and research responding to current issues.
Based on these achievements, BISTEP was selected as a Leading Research and Development Support Group for three consecutive years in the stage evaluation of the ‘Regional Research and Development Support Group Development Support Project’ led by the Ministry of Science and ICT, further elevating its status as a core institution for research and development innovation in the Busan region.

Lee Jong-ryul, Head of the Policy Research Headquarters at BISTEP, which oversees the Busan Leading Research and Development Support Group, said, “Being selected as a Leading Research and Development Support Group for three consecutive years is the result of successfully building an innovative ecosystem based on Busan’s existing innovation capabilities and systematically carrying out policy formulation, planning, and evaluation tailored to the region.” He added, “We will continue to strengthen regional competitiveness by linking Busan’s core industries with research and development and strive for innovation in regional science and technology through close cooperation with the central government.”
