Daejeon City Secures Additional 12.4 Billion KRW in RISE National Funding... Total National Support Reaches 68 Billion KRW
Daejeon City Selected as "Top Local Government for RISE System Establishment and Operation" and "Excellent Local Government for RISE Planning" in Ministry of Education Evaluation
Daejeon City announced that it has secured an additional 12.4 billion KRW in national funding for the Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE) project, increasing the total amount of national support to 68 billion KRW.
This additional funding was secured as a result of being selected as the top local government in the "Excellence in RISE System Establishment and Operation" category and as an excellent local government in the "Excellence in RISE Planning" category in the Ministry of Education's evaluation for "RISE Planning and System Establishment/Operation Excellence."
The city received high marks for systematically analyzing the local situation to present the RISE vision and direction for regional-university innovation, efforts to collaborate with government-funded research institutes, the establishment of a dedicated RISE organization, and achievements in building collaborative governance.
Daejeon's RISE plan envisions "Building an Education Innovation Collaboration Ecosystem among Universities, Industry, Research Institutes, and Government for the Realization of the ABCD+QR Economic and Science City Daejeon," and includes five major projects and twelve sub-tasks.
The five major projects are: △Specialization of university education leading the region △Activation of local employment and entrepreneurship △Advancement of sustainable university-industry-research cooperation △Strengthening of lifelong and career education △Resolution of local issues through RISE facilitation.
The city aims to establish a regional innovation model that connects talent development, research and development, and commercialization, leveraging Daejeon's strong scientific and technological innovation capabilities, with collaborative research projects with government-funded research institutes as representative initiatives.
The city plans to establish this year's RISE implementation plan by February, and will officially launch the project after conducting public recruitment and selection evaluations for universities within the city.
Ko Hyunduk, Director of Education Policy and Strategy at Daejeon City, said, "The efforts of Daejeon City, local universities, and the Daejeon RISE Center to establish the Daejeon-style RISE system have been recognized," and added, "We will do our best to build a regional innovation cooperation ecosystem through active communication with universities, companies, and government-funded research institutes to ensure the successful settlement of RISE."
