Benefits Provided, Including Customized Business Management Support
Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province is recruiting participants for the "2025 Fisheries Business Operator" support program.
According to the province on the 4th, this initiative aims to enhance the competitiveness of young people starting fisheries and existing fishers. The plan is to select 28 successors in fisheries and 6 outstanding business operators.
The application period runs until the end of this month, and those selected will receive financial support to establish a fisheries foundation and customized business management benefits.
The "Successor in Fisheries" category is open to those with no experience in fisheries management or with less than 10 years of experience, and who are between 18 and 50 years old. The "Outstanding Business Operator" category is for those who have managed fisheries in their selected field as a successor for at least five years, or those under 60 years old who have been recognized as a new knowledge person in fisheries.
Selected successors in fisheries can receive up to 500 million KRW in loans (annual interest rate of 1.5%, 5-year grace period, 20-year equal installment repayment), while outstanding business operators can receive an additional loan of up to 200 million KRW (annual interest rate of 1%, 5-year grace period, 10-year equal installment repayment).
The funds can be used to purchase fishing vessels, secure aquaculture sites, and construct new seafood processing and distribution facilities, thereby establishing a foundation for fisheries management. Selected participants must apply for loans within two years and complete the loan process at a financial institution by the end of the following year.
Applicants must meet evaluation criteria based on fisheries experience, academic background, and completed training, and must submit the required documents in person at a provincial fisheries technology research institute within the application period.
Jeon Byeongkwon, director of the Provincial Fisheries Technology Research Institute, stated, "We plan to promote the entry of young and middle-aged people into the fisheries industry and foster outstanding fisheries business operators to strengthen the competitiveness of the regional fisheries sector," adding, "We will continue to make various policy efforts for the sustainable development of the province's fisheries industry."
