Busan Regional Veterans Office Designates 'Namgang Jo Jeonghwan Teacher's National Salvation Miracle Monument' as February Memorial Facility in Busan Area
The Busan Regional Veterans Affairs Office (Director Lee Nam-il) is selecting and promoting the ‘Memorial Facility of the Month’ for 2025 to increase interest in memorial facilities and spread a culture of veterans affairs in daily life.
For February 2025, the Busan Regional Veterans Affairs Office designated the ‘Namgang Jo Jeonghwan National Salvation Monument,’ located in Namgang Park, Mieum-dong, Gangseo-gu, as the Memorial Facility of the Month.
Namgang Jo Jeonghwan was born in Noksan-dong, Gangseo-gu. After the March 1st Movement, he went to Manchuria and joined the Korean Independence Corps, dedicating himself to the independence movement. He later worked actively in the Minguk Independence Corps alongside Jo Byeongjun and Byeon Changgeun.

In September 1925, he organized the Joseon Situation Research Association in Seoul with Baek Nam-hoon, Hong Seong-ha, Park Seung-cheol, and others to carry out nationalist movements. The government awarded him the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriotism Medal in 1990 and erected the ‘Namgang Jo Jeonghwan Statue’ in 1992 on Gonghang-ro in Daejeo-dong, Gangseo-gu (under the Nakdong River embankment) to honor his patriotic spirit.
