Changwon Special City, Local Cultural Artists' Festival 'Daedongje' Opens
Until the 12th: Diverse Exhibitions and Performances by Local Artists
in the Masan Area
The ‘Daedongje’ festival, a celebration of cultural and artistic figures in the Changwon area, successfully opened at the Masan Culture and Arts Center Citizen Theater.
According to Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, more than 150 people, including Hong Nampyo, mayor of Changwon Special City, local members of the National Assembly, provincial and city council members, cultural artists, and citizens, attended the opening ceremony held on January 31. They participated in joint New Year’s bows, congratulatory performances, and a rice cake cutting ceremony, the city announced on the 2nd.
Hosted by the Daedongje Organizing Committee, the Daedongje festival began in 1988 when cultural artists in the Masan area gathered during the Lunar New Year to exchange New Year’s bows and well-wishes, and held exhibitions and performances. This year marks its 38th anniversary.
The Daedongje festival will continue until the 11th, featuring exhibitions of works by local cultural artists in fields such as fine arts, literature, and photography at the Citizen Theater and the second-floor exhibition hall of Changdong Art Center. In particular, on the 8th at 3 p.m., a community event called Eoulmadang will be held at the Citizen Theater, where cultural artists will share traditional Korean music (gugak), dance, and music with citizens. The festival will conclude with the Moon Viewing Prayer Ceremony held at 5 p.m. on the 12th at the Changwon Municipal Moonshin Art Museum.
