51 Greenhouses and 33 Livestock Barns Damaged by Heavy Snow... Damage Reports Accepted Until the 8th of Next Month
During this year's Lunar New Year holiday period from the 26th to the 29th, heavy snowfall nationwide caused damage or collapse to 51 vinyl greenhouses (2.6 hectares) and 33 livestock barns (1.46 hectares).
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that Vice Minister Park Beom-su held a 'Disaster Response Situation and Agricultural and Livestock Product Price Trend Inspection Meeting' on the 31st to review the damage status caused by the nationwide heavy snow during the Lunar New Year holiday, including the collapse of vinyl greenhouses and livestock barns, and to check the emergency restoration status of the damaged facilities as well as the supply and price trends of agricultural and livestock products thereafter.
Along with the damage to vinyl greenhouses and livestock barns during this Lunar New Year holiday, preliminary counts (as of 5 p.m. on the 30th) indicate the deaths of 15 dairy cows, 3 pigs, and 7,500 ducks. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs plans to receive additional damage reports through local governments until the 8th.
In addition, to prepare for possible delays in agricultural product shipments due to difficult working conditions caused by the heavy snow, the government will maximize the use of available stockpiles and other resources, while strengthening supply stability management by enhancing production monitoring through the operation of growth management councils in production areas.
