Jeon Mincheol, About to Join the Mariinsky Ballet, to Present His First Choreography
'Night of Franz Liszt' Performance
February 14 at Mapo Art Center
Ballerino Jeon Mincheol, who is about to join the Russian Mariinsky Ballet, will present his first choreographic work on February 14 at the Mapo Art Center.
On this day, the Mapo Art Center will host the first performance of the 2025 'M Ballet Series' by the Mapo Cultural Foundation, titled 'Night of Franz Liszt.' This creative ballet piece is choreographed by Kim Yonggeol, a professor at Korea National University of Arts, Jeon Mincheol, and others, set to the music of Franz Liszt, a Hungarian composer representing Romanticism.
Pianist Shin Jaemin will accompany the performance, with dancers from Kim Yonggeol Dance Theater and K-Arts Ballet Company participating as performers.
Jeon Mincheol will personally take the stage to perform his first choreographed piece set to Liszt's 'Liebestr?ume (Dreams of Love).'
Kim Yonggeol, a first-generation ballerino in Korea, will present 'Mazeppa,' choreographed to Liszt's 'Transcendental ?tude No. 4,' and 'Juliet and Romeo,' which expresses Juliet from William Shakespeare's novel 'Romeo and Juliet' from the perspective of Father Lawrence. Additionally, a stage of 'Hungarian Rhapsody,' choreographed by Park Soyeon to Liszt's music, portraying the freedom and playfulness of gypsies, will also be featured.
Song Jeyong, CEO of the Mapo Cultural Foundation, said, "We hope this will be a time to experience the essence of creative ballet through the passionate performances of the dancers."
