South Korea and Estonia Hold Defense Ministers' Meeting to Strengthen Cooperation
The Ministry of National Defense announced that Kim Seon-ho, Acting Minister of National Defense, held a meeting on the morning of the 27th at the Ministry of National Defense building in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, with Hanno Pevkur, Minister of Defense of Estonia, to discuss ways to strengthen defense and defense industry cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Acting Minister Kim highly evaluated the development of cooperation between the two countries in various fields such as digital and economy, and expressed his expectation that the relationship between the two countries, which share liberal democracy, will be further strengthened in the defense and defense industry sectors.
Acting Minister Kim also praised Estonia's excellent cyber security capabilities. Both sides emphasized that cyber security cooperation between the two countries is deepening, including the participation of their militaries in NATO-led cyber military exercises, and agreed to strengthen cooperation in various fields going forward.
Acting Minister Kim particularly explained the excellence of South Korean weapon systems, including the K-9 self-propelled howitzer introduced by the Estonian military. Acting Minister Kim and Minister Pevkur agreed to continuously promote mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as defense industry cooperation, personnel exchanges, and education and training through the operation of the same weapon systems.

Meanwhile, the two ministers expressed serious concerns about the negative impact on security in the Korean Peninsula and Europe caused by the ratification of the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty between Russia and North Korea and North Korea’s deployment of troops to the Ukraine war, calling for the immediate cessation of Russia-North Korea’s illegal military cooperation.
