Over 30cm of Snowfall in Two Days... Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Activated Level 1
Heavy Snow Crisis Alert Raised from 'Interest' to 'Caution'
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 27th that, as heavy snow warnings have been issued mainly for the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon Province, Jeolla Province, and Gyeongsang Province, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters has activated Level 1 and raised the heavy snow crisis alert level from 'Interest' to 'Caution.'
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, from today until the 28th, heavy snowfall is expected nationwide, with 10?20 cm (over 25 cm in some areas) in the Seoul metropolitan area, 10?20 cm (over 30 cm in some areas) in Gangwon Province, 5?15 cm (over 20 cm in some areas) in the Chungcheong region, 5?20 cm (over 30 cm in some areas) in Jeolla Province, and 3?10 cm (over 15 cm in some areas) in Gyeongsang Province.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters instructed local governments, police, fire departments, and related agencies in areas under heavy snow warnings and regions expected to receive significant snowfall to thoroughly establish emergency response systems during the Lunar New Year holiday.
Additionally, to minimize public inconvenience, they requested thorough snow removal in pedestrian spaces closely related to daily life, such as bus stops, subway station entrances, and alleyways.
Road management authorities were ordered to conduct proactive snow removal operations and strengthen inspections and patrols of vulnerable sections prone to icing, such as bridges and tunnel entrances, to prevent traffic congestion on the outbound and return routes during the holiday.
In preparation for a sharp drop in morning temperatures on the 28th, they emphasized strengthening safety management for vulnerable groups such as elderly people living alone and making every effort to operate protection facilities like cold weather shelters.
They also urged continuous dissemination of weather conditions and behavioral guidelines through disaster texts and broadcasts, as well as prompt transmission of traffic information such as traffic conditions and detour routes.
