According to Yonhap News, Yoo Young-jae, a former announcer turned broadcaster who was indicted on charges of forcibly molesting the elder sister of actress Sunwoo Eun-sook, was sentenced to prison in the first trial and was taken into custody in court.
According to Yonhap News, on the 23rd, the Criminal Division 1 of the Seongnam Branch of Suwon District Court (Chief Judge Heo Yong-gu) sentenced Yoo Young-jae, who was indicted without detention on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (forcible molestation by a family member), to 2 years and 6 months in prison. Along with this, he was ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment programs and was restricted from employment at institutions related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities for 5 years. Considering the risk of flight, the court ordered his detention.

View original imageThe court stated, "The victim's testimony is detailed and consistent, and there are no contradictions or irrational parts based on experience," and "Considering the facts recognized as evidence and related circumstances, the victim's testimony is sufficiently credible, and it can be acknowledged that the defendant forcibly molested the victim, who is a family member, five times." The court recognized all charges as guilty. It further explained, "Considering various circumstances, including that the victim has no motive to give false testimony, the victim's claims cannot be lightly dismissed, which is a consistent precedent of the Supreme Court."
Furthermore, the court explained the sentencing reasons, saying, "Considering the relationship between the defendant and the victim, the nature and method of the crime, the crime is serious," and "The damage has not been repaired, and the victim has not forgiven the defendant, yet the defendant denies the crime and does not show genuine remorse." However, it added, "Taking into account that there is no prior record of sexual crimes and that acquaintances pleaded for leniency." Yoo Young-jae said immediately after the sentence, "I will reflect."

Previously, Yoo Young-jae was brought to trial on charges of forcibly molesting the elder sister of Sunwoo Eun-sook, who was his wife at the time, five times between March and October 2023. Indicted without detention, he denied the charges during the defendant's questioning, saying, "I did not forcibly molest her." However, the prosecution demanded a sentence of 5 years in prison, stating, "In the recorded statements submitted by the victim, the defendant does not deny the crime, but during the trial process, he denies it, showing a bad nature of the crime." In his final statement, Yoo Young-jae said, "Because of this incident, I lost what I had achieved in my 34 years of broadcasting career, and my daily life has come to a halt," and added, "I have reflected on whether there are parts I need to repent for and parts I was wrong about."
