A Man in His 70s Dies During Physical Fitness Test for Wildfire Watchers in Jangseong, Jeonnam
A man in his 70s died while taking a physical fitness test for a wildfire monitoring position in Jangseong, Jeonnam.
According to the Jangseong Police Station in Jeonnam on the 22nd, a report was received by the fire department at around 9:53 a.m. the previous day that Mr. A (77) had collapsed near the Jangseongho Riverside Park in Jangseong-gun, Jeonnam.
Mr. A was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead.
It is reported that Mr. A had just finished a physical test for selection as a wildfire suppression team member, which involved carrying a 15kg backpack while climbing up and down stairs, and was resting afterward.
The police are investigating the exact cause of Mr. A's death.
Wildfire monitoring personnel are required to receive more than 10 hours of mandatory training each year, including practical training on handling suppression equipment in preparation for actual wildfire occurrences, and are dispatched to the scene in the event of a fire.
