As of December 2024, there are 58,568 single-person households, accounting for 44.3% of all households in Seongdong-gu, making it the most common household type and establishing itself as a universal household form.
Accordingly, since 2022, the district has been implementing a public contest project to practically support the diverse needs and demands of single-person households so that they can live healthy and happy lives.
Last year, 14 organizations were finally selected, and a total of 15 projects were promoted in five areas for single-person households: safety (security), housing, health, culture and leisure, and middle-aged specialization, including ▲ organizing and storage for middle-aged single-person households, dispatch with the village! ▲ 'Relationship Formation Sports Project' for single-person households ▲ 'Smart Green Home Project' for improving housing environments for low-income elderly living alone ▲ 'Digital Literacy Support Project' to enhance cognitive abilities of elderly single-person households.
This year, to reflect the diverse needs of the gradually increasing single-person households and to increase participation in the project, the scope of the 'Seongdong-type Single-Person Household Support Project' has been expanded not only to non-profit organizations and corporations but also to resident groups of single-person households living in Seongdong-gu. However, resident groups must consist of at least five single-person households, and at least two-thirds of the members must reside in Seongdong-gu or work within the Seongdong-gu area to be eligible to apply.
The contest targets projects reflecting the characteristics and needs of single-person households, covering four areas: safety, housing, health, and culture and leisure. One-time projects such as simple goods support, picnics, and one-day classes are excluded from support. Priority will be given to projects that can practically help single-person households form social relationships.
The total support budget is 40 million KRW, with non-profit organizations and corporations receiving up to 8 million KRW per project, and resident groups receiving up to 2 million KRW.
The district plans to hold a performance sharing meeting in November to ensure that the contest projects go beyond simple budget support, are widely disseminated as excellent projects, and to facilitate networking among participants.
Details on how to apply for the contest can be found on the Seongdong-gu Office website, and inquiries can be made to the Women and Family Division for detailed guidance.
