Seongsan 2-gil is a two-lane road from the terminal to in front of Gochang High School. Since there is no separate sidewalk, pedestrians have experienced significant inconvenience.
The county plans to invest a total project cost of 6 billion KRW over three years from this year to 2027 to transform these roads into safe and walkable streets. The project will include the installation of sidewalks, vehicle speed reduction facilities, facilities for the mobility-impaired, crime prevention facilities, undergrounding of power lines, improvement of the traffic system, and creation of rest areas.
In particular, the project is expected to create a clean urban streetscape befitting a World Heritage City by linking with other projects such as the "Gochang Terminal Urban Regeneration Innovation District National Pilot Project" and the "KEPCO Undergrounding Project."
The county plans to create a safe and convenient pedestrian environment that satisfies everyone through expert consultations and gathering of residents' opinions.
County Governor Shim Deokseop said, "We expect that creating a safe, distinctive, and pleasant pedestrian environment will improve walking convenience and greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy by establishing a premium street."
