Woo Won-sik, Speaker of the National Assembly, Issues Statement to the Media on the 19th
"Criminal Act Directly Denying the Constitution and Rule of Law"
Speaker of the National Assembly Woo Won-sik criticized the riot caused by supporters of President Yoon Suk-yeol at the Western District Court as a "serious criminal act that directly denies the Constitution of the Republic of Korea and the rule of law."
In a statement titled "Position on the Violent Incident of Intrusion into the Western District Court" sent to the media on the 19th, Speaker Woo said, "The attack on the court that occurred overnight is a substantial threat to constitutional institutions, no different from the incident on December 3rd when armed soldiers under martial law stormed the National Assembly."
Speaker Woo expressed, "As the head of the legislative branch, I am very concerned and dismayed," and wrote, "We must firmly rebuke the extreme actions of certain forces threatening the rule of law and stand together against them."
He continued, "Such lawless and extreme acts must not be tolerated," and emphasized, "A swift investigation and strict punishment are necessary."
