Last Year's Public FDI Down 27%... Much Larger Decline Than the Year Before
Last year, foreign direct investment (FDI) in China decreased by 27%.
According to the Ministry of Commerce of China on the 17th, last year's FDI in China amounted to 826.25 billion yuan (approximately 164 trillion won), down 27.1% compared to the same period the previous year.
Although the decline was somewhat smaller than the 27.9% decrease from January to November last year, it was still much larger than the overall 8.0% decrease in 2023.
By industry, manufacturing FDI was 221.21 billion yuan (about 44 trillion won), and services FDI was 584.56 billion yuan (116 trillion won).
FDI in high-tech manufacturing was 96.29 billion yuan (about 19 trillion won), accounting for 11.7% of the total.
While the overall trend showed a decline, FDI from Spain and Singapore to China increased by 130.8% and 10.8%, respectively, drawing attention.

The number of newly established foreign-invested enterprises in China last year rose by 9.9% to 59,080.
