Gwanak-gu Significantly Expands Honors for National Veterans This Year... Budget of 4.3 Billion Won Allocated
Increase in Veterans’ Honor Allowance, Spousal Welfare Allowance, and Consolation Payments
Installation of Priority Parking Spaces for National Veterans in Public Parking Lots
Strengthening Honors and Support for Those Who Sacrificed and Contributed to the Nation
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) will significantly expand the honors and support for national veterans who have dedicated themselves to the country starting from January this year.
To this end, the district has allocated a budget of over 4.3 billion KRW for ▲veterans' honor allowances ▲increased consolation payments ▲support for veterans' organizations.
First, the district will raise the veterans' honor allowance from 60,000 KRW to 70,000 KRW per month for about 4,100 national veterans and their primary surviving family members.
The consolation payments given during Lunar New Year, Chuseok, and the June Month of Patriots and Veterans will also be increased from 20,000 KRW to 30,000 KRW.
Those who wish to newly receive the veterans' honor allowance due to reasons such as relocation can apply by visiting their local community service center with their national merit certificate and a copy of their bankbook, while consolation payments will be paid to the existing veterans' allowance account without a separate application process.
Additionally, the district revised the Ordinance on the Honors and Support for National Veterans of Gwanak-gu, Seoul, last year to establish the basis for providing welfare allowances to spouses of veterans who may be excluded due to the lack of survivor succession upon the veteran’s death.
Accordingly, the district has been paying a welfare allowance of 60,000 KRW per month to spouses since November last year, and this year it has been increased to 70,000 KRW per month.
Along with this, the district is making multifaceted efforts to enhance the honor and pride of veterans.
The district enacted an ordinance on the installation and operation of priority parking spaces for national veterans to improve the mobility convenience of veterans and their families, and in September last year, installed ‘Priority Parking Spaces for National Veterans, etc.’ in 10 public parking lots with more than 100 spaces and the district office’s underground parking lot.
Furthermore, in October last year, a singing class was opened at the Veterans Hall, strengthening welfare for the honorable lives of national veterans and providing generous support measures.
