This special monitoring will be carried out for 17 days, from the 20th of this month to the 5th of next month, targeting facilities that discharge environmental pollutants, major industrial complexes, and areas surrounding rivers in the Gwangju area.
To this end, the city will operate a "Special Monitoring Team" consisting of 14 members in 7 groups, in cooperation with the five autonomous districts. Their activities will be divided into three phases: before, during, and after the holiday period.
From the 20th to the 24th, before the holiday, inspections will be conducted mainly on businesses that discharge environmental pollutants. The targets are approximately 1,670 such facilities, and prior to intensive inspections, the city will carry out advance publicity and guidance activities, such as sending out cooperation letters for voluntary inspections.
During the holiday period, from the 25th to the 30th, joint patrols with the autonomous districts will be strengthened around rivers near industrial complexes. In addition, a 24-hour environmental pollution reporting hotline will be operated to respond to any pollution incidents.
Until the 5th of next month, after the holiday, technical support will be provided to small-scale and vulnerable businesses to enhance their management capabilities for emission and prevention facilities.
Kim Osuk, Head of the Environmental Conservation Division, said, "We will do our best to strengthen monitoring activities to prevent illegal environmental pollution and ensure a safe and pleasant Lunar New Year holiday. If you witness any acts of environmental pollution, please report them immediately to 128 (for mobile phones, area code + 128) without a prefix."
