Dangjin City Offers 10% Discount on Environmental Improvement Charges for Lump-Sum Payment
Prepayment Application and Payment Available Until the 31st
On the 14th, Dangjin City in Chungnam announced that it will implement an annual prepayment system for the environmental improvement charge, offering a 10% discount on the annual payment amount for those who apply for prepayment between the 15th and 31st of this month.
The payment obligation applies to owners of vehicles registered under the Automobile Management Act that use diesel as fuel. However, Euro 5 and 6 vehicles (manufactured after March 2012) and low-emission vehicles are exempt.
The environmental improvement charge is imposed based on the vehicle's engine displacement, with the amount varying depending on the vehicle's age and the region. It is billed twice a year, in March and September, for the previous year's second half and the current year's first half, respectively.
The calculation period for this prepayment application is from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. Eligible applicants can pay via the Wetax website from the 15th to the 31st, or apply and pay by phone or in person at the Environmental Hygiene Division of Dangjin City Hall.
If the application is not submitted within this period, applicants can still apply from the 1st to the 31st of the following month and receive about a 5% discount on the payment amount.
Taxpayers who receive the prepayment notice can pay through a virtual account, ATMs at all banks nationwide, financial institutions, or online (Wetax, Internet Giro, Internet Banking). If payment is not made within the deadline, the prepayment is automatically canceled and regular payment notices will be issued twice a year.
A city official stated, "Prepayment is a useful way to save on taxes, so we encourage many citizens to participate," and added, "Vehicles that are scheduled for scrapping, cancellation, or changes in ownership or address (to another city or district) during the applicable period are excluded from eligibility."
