Opens Her Home to Wildfire Victims
As large wildfires continue to cause damage in Los Angeles (LA), the largest city in the western United States, top stars have joined in helping the victims.
American pop star Beyonc? donated a large sum of $2.5 million (approximately 3.7 billion KRW) to support those displaced by the wildfires in the affected areas. On the 12th (local time), she announced this through the official social media account of her charity foundation BeyGOOD, which she established in 2013.
The foundation stated, "The donation will be used to operate the LA fire relief fund," adding, "This fund will be used to assist churches and community centers providing on-site support to families in Altadena and Pasadena who lost their homes, as well as others affected by the wildfires." Altadena and Pasadena are areas affected by the 'Eaton Fire,' one of the two major wildfires in LA County.
Although the wildfire that started in Pacific Palisades along the western coast is larger in scale, most residents there are known to be wealthy, including Hollywood stars and tycoons. In contrast, Altadena and Pasadena, located inland to the east, are primarily home to working-class residents, many of whom have lost their homes and have nowhere to go due to the fires.
Actress Angelina Jolie also extended a helping hand. On the 13th, American entertainment media People reported, citing sources, that Jolie has been personally involved in relief efforts by visiting the wildfire-affected areas. She is volunteering with her six children and is said to have opened her home to those who lost their houses in the fires. Jolie has previously served as a special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
In addition, Jamie Lee Curtis announced a donation of $1 million (approximately 1.47 billion KRW), and Eva Longoria pledged $50,000 (approximately 73 million KRW) to support wildfire victims and recovery efforts. Sharon Stone and Halle Berry donated clothes, shoes, and bags. Corporations have also joined the donation efforts, with The Walt Disney Company contributing $15 million (approximately 22.04 billion KRW) and Paramount donating $1 million.
Meanwhile, as of the 14th, the wildfires burning across western California show containment rates ranging from 14% to 30%. Most of the sporadic fires have been controlled, but the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, which are the origin points and the largest sources of the wildfires, show no signs of being contained.

Amid this, the U.S. National Weather Service forecasted that gusty winds could occur until the 15th. Wind speeds are expected to reach up to 80 km/h, and in mountainous areas, up to 113 km/h. If embers carried by the wind ignite dry air and brush, the fires could worsen significantly.
