"Promotion of Offshore Wind Power and SMR Ship Technology Development"

The Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Mokpo National University (President: Song Hacheol) announced on the 9th that it had signed a business agreement with the Yeongam-gun Energy Center (Director: Oh Sunghyun) on the 7th to respond to energy transition and distributed energy.

The agreement was attended by key officials from both organizations, including Kim Sunghwan, Director of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation at Mokpo National University, and Oh Sunghyun, Director of the Yeongam-gun Energy Center. Both sides pledged close cooperation in areas such as research and demonstration technology development projects, training of specialized personnel for VPP (Virtual Power Plant) operation through direct power trading, training and support for entrepreneurship in solar power maintenance, repair, and management, power trading, ESS (Energy Storage System), fuel cells, and power grid-related new energy business fields.

Professor Kim Sunghwan stated, "Mokpo National University has been striving for over 20 years to develop specialized capabilities in the marine and energy industries of the southwestern region. As a selected Glocal University, we plan to promote the development of offshore wind power and SMR ship technologies linked to energy policies such as decarbonization and digital transformation. Cooperation with the Yeongam-gun Energy Center will be a great opportunity to foster global talent in the energy sector."

Director Oh Sunghyun said, "Yeongam-gun is working to be designated as a special zone for distributed energy, and we expect to create new growth engines in the field of renewable energy businesses such as distributed energy through practical cooperation with Mokpo National University."

Meanwhile, Mokpo National University is preparing to become a globally renowned maritime-specialized university, leading the future of regional industries such as carbon-free ships, offshore wind power, and energy ICT, based on a budget of approximately 400 billion KRW secured over the next five years from Glocal University, RISE Project, and National University Promotion Project.
