Lotte Chemical Expands Eco-Friendly Plastic Collaboration with Hyundai Motor and Kia
Joint Development of Eco-Friendly PC/PET Materials
Consideration for Application in Future New Car Models
Lotte Chemical has expanded its collaboration with Hyundai Motor Company and Kia to develop eco-friendly plastic materials for mobility applications.
On the 9th, Lotte Chemical announced that it has newly developed a high-content eco-friendly PC/PET material with a 70% recycling rate in partnership with Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, and Seoyon E-Hwa.

Based on excellent physical properties and color freedom suitable for automotive interior applications, it is planned to be applied to new car models to be released by Hyundai Motor Company and Kia. This initiative is a response to the recently strengthened European Union (EU) 'End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV)' regulations.
In November last year, Lotte Chemical participated in the 'Eco-friendly Materials and Vehicle Exhibition' held at Hyundai Motor Company's Namyang Research Center, where eco-friendly PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) material was applied to the rear lamp lens parts of Kia's EV3 study car. This PMMA uses a 'depolymerization' method that chemically breaks down plastics and then re-fuses them, enabling quality equivalent to conventional plastics.
Additionally, since 2022, Lotte Chemical has been supplying various eco-friendly materials such as eco-friendly PP/Talc and eco-friendly PC/ABS for automotive interior and exterior parts through collaborative development with Hyundai Motor Company and Kia.
