Geochang-gun Selected as Grade 1 in Regional Public Safety by Ministry of the Interior and Safety Announcement
Selected as Grade 1 for 2 Consecutive Years in Gyeongnam Province
Achieved 2nd Place in Regional Safety Index Among Counties
Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 9th that it achieved a Grade 1 rating for two consecutive years in the living safety category of the 'Regional Safety Index' announced by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on December 31.
Since 2015, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has annually quantified and published safety levels and safety awareness by local governments, rating six categories?traffic accidents, fires, crime, living safety, suicide, and infectious diseases?on a scale from Grade 1 to Grade 5.
Based on 2023 statistics, Geochang-gun achieved Grade 1 for two consecutive years in the living safety category of the 2024 Regional Safety Index and improved to Grade 2 in the fire category, ranking joint 2nd among counties in the province.
However, the traffic and crime categories each dropped one grade, indicating the need for improvements such as enhancing residents' traffic awareness, including seatbelt use and compliance with traffic laws, and expanding child safety guardian houses and autonomous crime prevention units.
