Honam University Student Ko Taehee Receives 'Gwangju Mayor's Commendation' at Safe Korea Training
Contribution to Strengthening Disaster Response Capabilities
Honam University announced on the 8th that Go Taehee, a third-year student serving as the Director of General Affairs in the University Student Specialized Volunteer Fire Brigade of the Department of Fire Administration (headed by Noh Seongyun, brigade leader Kang Ungil), was recognized as a meritorious contributor in the "2024 Gwangju City Safe Korea Drill" and received a commendation from the Mayor of Gwangju.
The Safe Korea Drill was held last May in the area around Pyeongdong Station, simulating flood disasters and major urban rail accidents. Over 500 participants from organizations such as Gwangju City, Gwangsan District, and the Transportation Corporation took part. The drill aimed to assess the response capabilities to urban rail damage caused by floods and to verify an organic response system for various unexpected situations.
Go Taehee was highly praised for actively participating in the development of flood disaster scenarios and in rescue activities for casualties in cooperation with Gwangsan District during the drill. Her efforts contributed significantly to enhancing the realism of disaster scenes in the Safe Korea Drill and strengthening Gwangju City's practical flood response capabilities.
Go Taehee stated, "My experiences with the University Student Specialized Volunteer Fire Brigade, particularly in understanding the dangers of flood disasters and activities to reduce damage, greatly helped in developing scenarios and actively participating in the Safe Korea Drill." She added, "I will continue to participate in disaster safety education and drills to do my best in making Gwangju a safer city."
