Damyang County, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 7th that it has established emergency protection measures for low-income and vulnerable groups who are experiencing economic hardship due to the winter cold wave and rising energy prices.
This measure aims to support heating costs and essential daily necessities for low-income and vulnerable groups, with all support to be completed before the Lunar New Year holiday.
In addition to the existing rice support, the county will provide temporary food expenses of 100,000 won per month, totaling 300,000 won, to 379 senior centers in the county to help seniors spend a healthy winter.
Furthermore, a budget of 220 million won will be allocated to provide heating cost support of 100,000 won per person to approximately 2,200 low-income and vulnerable seniors (recipients and those just above the poverty line) aged 65 and over, so they can spend the cold winter warmly.
In addition, food packages worth 100,000 won, consisting of agricultural, marine, and livestock products, will be delivered to 148 low-income single-parent households whose income is below 63% of the median income.
County Governor Lee Byeongno said, "We expect that this support measure will be of great help to vulnerable households in spending a warm winter," and added, "We will continue to do our best to improve the welfare of vulnerable groups."
