Daejeon City Conducts Joint Inspection of Food Vendors Ahead of Lunar New Year
122 Establishments Handling Goods for Exam Takers and Gifts
Daejeon City announced that it will conduct food hygiene inspections at 122 establishments that prepare and sell food for Seol ritual offerings and gifts from the 6th to the 10th, ahead of the Seol holiday.
The inspections will be carried out by three teams per day across five districts, with participation from consumer food hygiene monitors, as a joint effort between the public and private sectors. To enhance objectivity, the inspections will be conducted through cross-checking between different areas.
The main inspection items include: △ whether food is manufactured or sold without proper notification △ use or sale of products past their consumption (distribution) date △ hygiene management of workspaces △ whether health checkups have been conducted △ compliance with preservation standards for refrigerated and frozen foods, among others.
The city plans to collect 60 samples of foods such as rice cakes, traditional Korean sweets, processed gift foods, health functional foods, agricultural and marine products, and ritual foods to request laboratory testing.
Son Cheolung, Director of Sports and Health at Daejeon City, stated, "We will do our utmost to strengthen food safety management at establishments selling popular Seol holiday foods so that citizens can start the new year safely and joyfully."
