Seong-su Jeon, Seocho District Mayor, Quiet New Year Steps
Joint Memorial Altar for Jeju Air Accident Victims Set Up in District Office 1st Floor Lobby, Open Jan 1-4, 8 AM-9 PM... New Year's Ceremony Skipped, Held as Executive Meeting... National Cemetery Visit Scheduled for Jan 6 After Official Mourning Period Ends
Jeon Seong-su, the Mayor of Seocho District, has been showing a quiet approach since the beginning of the new year.
At the end of last year, following the Jeju Air passenger plane accident, the district office set up a joint memorial altar for the victims in the lobby on the first floor, operating it from January 1 to 4, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., providing residents a space to mourn.
In particular, on January 2, Mayor Jeon quietly visited the memorial altar early in the morning alone, without any aides or senior officials, to pay his respects.
He also did not hold the New Year's district office opening ceremony, but instead held an expanded senior officials meeting on January 3, emphasizing the importance of remembering the initial resolve as public servants and recommitting to being honest and upright officials. He also urged thorough attention to ensure that residents’ daily lives are not inconvenienced.
He is scheduled to visit the National Cemetery on the morning of January 6. Notably, scheduling the visit after the national mourning period appears to reflect Mayor Jeon’s deep consideration.
