Two Additional Dementia Relief Hospitals Designated in Yongin and Ansan, Gyeonggi
The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 31st that it has additionally designated two hospitals, Gyeonggi Provincial Yongin Senior Specialized Hospital and Ansan Municipal Senior Specialized Hospital, as Dementia Relief Hospitals.
Dementia Relief Hospitals are hospital-level medical institutions equipped with facilities and equipment tailored to the characteristics of dementia patients, such as dedicated wards, and staffed with specialists in neurology or psychiatry who have expertise in dementia treatment and management, as well as dedicated nursing personnel.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare has been operating the Dementia Relief Hospital designation system since 2019, and as of this month, has designated 22 hospitals nationwide as Dementia Relief Hospitals.

Im Eum-gi, Director of Elderly Policy at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, stated, "Gyeonggi Province has the largest elderly population, and with this additional designation, we expect improved medical accessibility and convenience for patients with severe dementia in the region." He added, "We urge related hospitals and local governments to actively apply for Dementia Relief Hospital designation and show interest."
