Passenger Plane Disaster... European Leaders Mourn "An Incalculable Tragedy"
European leaders expressed their condolences to the victims' families and the people of Korea regarding the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster that occurred at Muan International Airport in Jeonnam.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Union (EU) Commission, said on the 29th (local time) on X (formerly Twitter), "My heart aches after seeing the images of the plane crash accident," adding, "I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Republic of Korea. As your partner, Europe stands with you in this time of sorrow."
Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany, also wrote on X, "I heard the terrible news of many deaths caused by a plane crash in Korea," and expressed, "My condolences to the bereaved families and wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured."
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, stated on X, "The accident at the airport in Muan-gun, Republic of Korea, took many lives," calling it "an immeasurable tragedy to lose lives."
He added, "On behalf of the Ukrainian people, I sincerely express my condolences to the victims' families, the Korean people, and Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok. We share in your grief and will stand with the Korean people during this time of sorrow."
