National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonshik stated, "Rescuing lives is the top priority right now," and requested, "Acting President Choi Sangmok and all relevant ministries should do their utmost." Speaker Woo also appealed, "I ask all local governments and institutions that can offer assistance to make every effort," adding, "The National Assembly will also do everything it can to provide maximum support."
Kwon Seongdong, acting leader and floor leader of the People Power Party, emphasized, "Relevant ministries should work closely with Jeonnam Province to prioritize rescue operations," and added, "Mobilize all available equipment and personnel, and make every effort to ensure that not a single person is missed by accurately confirming the passengers." He also requested, "Please ensure the safety of the rescue workers as well."
Former leader Han Donghoon said, "I hope the fire authorities will do their utmost to save even one more person," and added, "We are praying together with all the people."
Lee Jaemyung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged, "This is a crisis situation where every second counts," and requested, "Authorities should mobilize all administrative power and available resources to swiftly manage the accident." He also said, "Please pay special attention to the safety of the rescue workers," and added, "The National Assembly and the Democratic Party will provide every possible support for accident management."
Earlier, at around 9:07 a.m. on this day, a Jeju Air passenger plane veered off the runway and collided with the outer fence while landing at Muan International Airport in Mangun-myeon, Muan-gun, Jeonnam. The fire authorities dispatched 32 vehicles, including fire trucks, and 80 personnel to extinguish the fire and rescue the victims. According to authorities, as of 11:34 a.m., two people?one passenger and one crew member?have been rescued, and 47 people have been confirmed dead.
