JAL Followed by Major Japanese Banks Also Suffer Cyber Attacks
Japan's major bank Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, like Japan Airlines (JAL), experienced a temporary system outage due to a cyberattack.
According to Kyodo News on the 27th, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank announced that its internet banking system, 'Mitsubishi UFJ Direct,' experienced a malfunction the previous afternoon.
As a result, some users were unable to access internet banking, and issues were also confirmed in the corporate system. Mitsubishi UFJ Direct is known to be used by about 10 million people.
Mitsubishi UFJ Bank explained the system failure was "caused by an external unauthorized large volume of data being sent," and stated that there was no customer data leakage or virus damage.

This led to cancellations or delays of some domestic and international flights. Both companies are reported to have been targeted by Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.
