Geumcheon-gu Implements Weekday Lunch Service at Senior Centers for 6 Months... High Satisfaction Among Elderly
Survey on Satisfaction with Lunch Frequency, Taste, Quantity, and Menu for Elderly Users
Received Positive Feedback on Meal Taste and Quality
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that the weekday lunch service provided at senior centers has received positive evaluations from the elderly users.
Since May of this year, the district has introduced a meal delivery system for the first time among Seoul's autonomous districts, supporting weekday lunches at senior centers. The meals are prepared with customized menus designed by professional nutritionists, considering the nutrients and calories needed by the elderly, and are delivered to the senior centers that request the service.
The survey was conducted to understand the usage status and satisfaction level of the lunch service over six months, aiming to operate the lunch service more stably and effectively in the future.
The survey was conducted over seven days starting November 14, targeting 1,316 elderly users of the lunch service. The elderly evaluated five items including the frequency of lunch, taste, quantity, and menu of the meals. District officials visited the sites to request participation, and the overall response rate was 55%.
At the beginning of the operation, the elderly were unfamiliar with the meal delivery system and the new menu. However, as the delivery system settled, they expressed satisfaction with the convenience of the meals and balanced nutrition.
Regarding satisfaction with the frequency of lunch, 86.8% of respondents answered "very satisfied" or "satisfied," confirming that the provision of weekday lunches is highly welcomed by the elderly.
Regarding the taste of the meals, 90.6% of respondents gave positive responses of "average" or higher, indicating overall satisfaction with the quality.
Based on the results of this survey, the district plans to continue implementing various policies aimed not only at improving the quality of lunch operations at senior centers but also at enhancing the quality of life of the elderly within the local community.
The head of a senior center using the lunch service said, "It is difficult to go grocery shopping and cook meals, but the meals planned and prepared by a nutritionist are delivered, so the members are satisfied and use the service." He added, "There are days when I have to eat alone if I don't come to the senior center, but it is very enjoyable to eat quality meals together with others."
