Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) will become a hot place capturing the eyes and ears of billions worldwide by the end of this year.
This is because the 2nd SeoulCon opens at DDP on the 28th. SeoulCon is a global influencer festival hosted and organized by the Seoul Business Agency (SBA). Led by global influencers, it introduces Seoul's lifestyle, including K-pop, K-beauty, and K-fashion, to the world. It was first held last year. Over three days, various events such as K-pop concerts and the APAN Star Awards took place, with about 3,000 teams of famous global influencers participating. Following them, 102,000 people from around the world visited the event site, and numerous SeoulCon-related contents were created on social media, recording a total of 430 million views.
This year, the event period and the number of participating global influencers have increased. The SBA announced that this year’s SeoulCon will be held for five days starting from the 28th, with 3,500 influencer teams from over 50 countries attending. They also explained that the total number of SNS subscribers of these 3,500 influencer teams reaches a staggering 3 billion.
This year, nine promotional ambassadors for SeoulCon were selected. The total number of SNS subscribers of these nine ambassadors reaches 161.45 million. The influencer with the most subscribers is Dong Seonsaeng (Wanghong) from China, with a total of 36.98 million subscribers. Dong Seonsaeng enjoys great popularity with live commerce content. It is known that every time he broadcasts targeting the Chinese and Southeast Asian markets, sales of at least 10 billion KRW are generated.
Korean promotional ambassadors include Ddotty (Na Hee-seon), co-founder of Sandbox Network, and Yellunni (Choi Ye-rin), who creates kids’ content and also appears on KBS’s ‘TV Kindergarten.’ Ddotty and Yellunni have SNS subscriber counts of 2.5 million and 18.69 million, respectively.
Other ambassadors include Indian beauty influencer Poonam Naruka (6.73 million subscribers), Russian-born model and influencer Dasha Taran (22.11 million) active in Korea, Japanese comedian Kazuhisa Uekusa (20.3 million), and Indonesian influencer Irene Suwandi (17.5 million), who debuted this spring as part of the K-pop girl group ‘TD.’
This year’s SeoulCon will feature a total of 25 diverse events covering content, fashion & beauty, gaming, and performances.
The ‘2024 SeoulCon APAN Star Awards,’ Korea’s only integrated drama awards ceremony covering all channels including terrestrial broadcasting and online video services (OTT), will be held at DDP Art Hall 1 on the opening day. On the 29th, the year-end awards ceremony for Korea’s professional e-sports league, the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK), will be held at the same venue. From 6 PM on the 31st until 2 AM the next day, the ‘SeoulCon World K-pop Festival & Countdown’ will continue. Performers such as Zico, Dynamic Duo, Baekho, Changmo, Billi, and Say My Name will showcase K-pop performances.
