Chungnam Province Attracts Youth Smart Farms to Hongseong... 10ha in Size
Chungnam Province announced on the 24th that Hongseong County has been selected as the recipient of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ “Smart Foster District Development Project,” which will receive a total project budget of 20 billion KRW.
This project, newly launched by the Ministry this year, aims to foster young farmers based on smart farms by establishing long-term rental smart farms that incorporate advanced agricultural technologies.
It also plans to ease the burden of initial investment costs and enable young farmers to engage in stable farming activities.
The Hongseong Smart Foster District will be established on a total scale of 10 hectares, including a 5-hectare advanced rental smart farm in Gwang-ri, Seobu-myeon, and 5 hectares of distribution and related facilities in Dongsan-ri, Galsan-myeon.
The advanced rental smart farms will be leased to young farmers for a basic period of 5 years, up to a maximum of 10 years, allowing them to secure startup funds in a stable manner.
In addition, the district will feature smart farm research and development (R&D) facilities, management training farms, distribution facilities, and specialized export complexes.
The province expects this project to contribute to the inflow and settlement of young farmers, expansion of smart farm facilities for local produce such as strawberries and tomatoes, maintenance of stable productivity, and increased farm income.
It is also expected that the construction and integration of educational, experiential, and tourism facilities will help revitalize agriculture and rural communities, increase the local population, and boost the regional economy.
A provincial official stated, “The Smart Foster District will serve as a driving force in discovering and nurturing young talent who will lead the future of agriculture by integrating advanced agricultural technologies,” adding, “We will promptly proceed with the development project to provide young people with opportunities to realize their dreams, and lead the sustainable growth of agriculture and rural communities.”
The official continued, “To establish a smart agricultural complex covering 8.36 million square meters (2.53 million pyeong), we will continue to promote the influx of young people into rural areas and build a future-oriented agricultural ecosystem through various support measures.”
