'Deullaknallak' was selected in the space name category along with 'Dodam Dodam Nanumteo' (Seoul) and 'Malgeunmul Sangsangnuri' (Gyeonggi Province), and received the 'Boram' award at the ceremony held at the Korean Language Society on the afternoon of the 23rd. 'Boram' is a Korean word corresponding to a badge.
'Deullaknallak' is a name proposed through a citizen participation contest, expressing in a friendly and easy Korean language the meaning of a space where children and families freely come and go to accumulate various experiences and learning.
It was especially praised for capturing the 'taste of words' in Korean and being a name that anyone can easily understand.
Among 919 public projects and space names discovered through the 'Our Language Boram Contest' and data research, three space names and three Korean language projects were finally selected through strict evaluation criteria, and 'Deullaknallak' was recognized as a representative case embodying the value of public participation and communication.
'Deullaknallak' carries a meaning beyond a simple name, well capturing the essence of a complex cultural space that children and families can approach familiarly, and is evaluated as a name symbolizing the importance of citizen participation and communication as a successful case where Busan citizens' ideas were reflected in public policy.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, "The easy Korean name 'Deullaknallak,' born from citizen participation, has received great attention as it well represents the role and value of the space," adding, "'Deullaknallak' will continue to grow with the local community as a complex cultural space where Busan's children accumulate joyful experiences and learning, creating meaningful changes."
The Busan Children's Complex Cultural Space 'Deullaknallak' was also recognized last November as a case that enhanced sustainable urban development and social inclusion, receiving the 'SDG City Awards Grand Prize.' Currently, 75 locations across Busan are open and operating, and 30 locations are under development.
