Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Wins 'Environmental Innovation Award' at Consumer ESG Innovation Awards
Efforts Recognized for Marine Plastic Collection and Resource Circulation
Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Park Sunghyun, hereinafter referred to as the Authority) announced on the 23rd that it has been honored with the Environmental Innovation Award in the Zero Waste category at the '2024 Consumer ESG Innovation Awards' for being recognized as an exemplary case of ESG management.
The 'Consumer ESG Innovation Awards' is a ceremony organized by ESG Consumer Initiative and hosted by the Consumer Rights Forum and Future Consumer Action.

View original imageThis event, now in its second year, aims to raise consumer awareness of corporate ESG management and to select companies that have contributed to the spread of ESG practices. A total of 18 organizations were awarded across five categories, including consumer rights enhancement and consumer safety, following rigorous expert evaluations and assessments by 100 consumers.
The Authority was recognized for its efforts to address marine plastic issues through its 'Marine Plastic Collection and Resource Circulation Project.' Through various activities, such as establishing a marine plastic collection network and collaborating with social enterprises to produce recycled products, the Authority has been steadily progressing toward the goal of zero waste for marine plastics. In particular, by utilizing collected plastics to manufacture safety equipment needed at port sites, the Authority has realized a resource-circulating economy and set an exemplary case of coexistence with the local community.
With this award as momentum, the Authority plans to further expand its ESG management and achieve sustainable growth by cooperating with various stakeholders. It also intends to actively disclose ESG management achievements transparently and promote the spread of an ESG management culture through communication with the local community.
President Park Sunghyun stated, "This award is a recognition of the Authority's efforts in ESG management. Going forward, the Authority will further strengthen ESG management for a sustainable future," adding, "We will continue to promote various projects to protect the marine environment, coexist with the local community, and establish ourselves as a leading company in ESG management."
