One of Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun’s pledges, ‘Attracting a large supermarket to Guri Distribution Complex Market,’ had been a persistent issue raised by citizens since 2021 during the 7th local government term, when Lotte Mart failed to renew its lease contract and was replaced by a small-to-medium-sized supermarket, Citizen Mart (then L Mart), leading to poor management.
The ‘Opening of the extended Line 8 subway’ started operation on August 10 and was a groundbreaking project that instantly transformed Guri City’s transportation system. With the extension of Line 8, travel from Guri to Jamsil in Seoul became possible within 20 minutes, greatly alleviating the inconvenience for citizens commuting to Seoul.
In this survey, including the joint first place, seven out of the top ten news items were closely related to citizens’ daily lives, revealing that citizens showed great interest and positive responses to policies that directly affect their everyday lives.
The third place was ‘Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport includes Galmae Station as an additional stop in the environmental impact assessment report for the GTX-B private investment project,’ selected by 1,076 respondents (74.4%), and fourth place was ‘Completion of the 2nd public parking lot at Guri Traditional Market, resolving parking difficulties at the traditional market’ (1,048 respondents, 72.5%).
The 2nd public parking lot at Guri Traditional Market has a total of 383 parking spaces and has been highly satisfactory to residents as it significantly helps alleviate the chronic parking shortage at the market.
Following these, fifth place was ‘66.9% of Guri citizens support the incorporation of Guri City into Seoul, according to the survey’ with 1,045 votes (72.3%), and sixth place was ‘Announcement of designation and development of the Topyeong 2 District public housing site in Guri City’ with 974 votes (67.4%).
Meanwhile, seventh place was ‘Concentrated administrative efforts to attract autonomous public high schools and Gyeonggi-type science high schools’ (848 votes, 58.6%). Although the attraction failed, it was confirmed that many citizens had a positive interest in this project.
Other rankings included eighth place ‘Reduction of water and sewage fees expanded from families with three children to two children’ (766 votes, 53.0%), ninth place ‘Reopening of Guri Gyomun Library with a Bang Jeong-hwan specialization’ (710 votes, 49.1%), and tenth place ‘Completion of construction of Geomba Cultural and Sports Center, opening in December’ (627 votes, 43.4%).
