Yeongju City Holds Carbon Neutrality Commitment Rally for Rural Leaders Association
On the 19th, Yeongju City held a pledge event for carbon neutrality under the theme "Realizing Carbon Neutrality by 2050! Let Rural Leaders Take Action" at the Agricultural Experience Education Center of the Agricultural Technology Center, with 30 executive committee members of the Yeongju City Federation of Rural Leaders (President Park Jae-yeol) in attendance.
The Yeongju City Federation of Rural Leaders received an encouragement award among seven cities and counties nationwide in this year's "Excellent Cases Competition for the Spread of Agricultural and Rural Carbon Neutrality Technology Practices" hosted by the Rural Development Administration, through initiatives such as △distribution of nets for collecting empty pesticide bottles △campaigns for collecting empty pesticide bottles △distribution of nonwoven fabric for soil environment preservation to reduce herbicide use △and soil improvement using biochar.
This pledge event was an opportunity to discuss carbon neutrality measures that can be practiced in the agricultural field and to build consensus on ways for farmers to proactively participate in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing absorption and storage.
The attendees shared practical measures that farmers can implement, including △expanding the use of controlled-release fertilizers △utilizing soil conditioners △applying sufficiently matured compost △recycling plastic films △regular inspection and maintenance of agricultural machinery △prescribing fertilizer use based on soil testing and adhering to safe pesticide use guidelines, and pledged concrete action plans aiming for a practical carbon emission 'zero.'
They reaffirmed their commitment to play a central role in practicing carbon neutrality through the Rural Leaders Association to pass on healthy farmland to future generations and reduce the damage agriculture suffers from abnormal climate changes.
