Gwangju City Awarded as an Excellent Institution in the Han River Watershed Management Fund Project Performance Evaluation

Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Bang Se-hwan) announced on the 18th that it was selected as an excellent institution in the ‘2023 Fiscal Year Han River Basin Management Fund Project Performance Evaluation’ hosted by the Han River Basin Management Committee and received a reward of 10 million KRW.
The performance evaluation covered a total of seven areas: resident support by management authorities, installation and operation of basic environmental facilities, water source management area projects, ecological river restoration, eco-friendly clean areas, and non-point pollution reduction. Gwangju City was selected as an excellent management authority by receiving a ‘very excellent’ rating in the operation of basic environmental facilities and water source management area projects.
The ‘Operation of Basic Environmental Facilities’ had a 2023 budget of 17.627 billion KRW, establishing an active monitoring system for basic environmental facilities, resolving issues, and achieving 102.5% of the pollution reduction target. The ‘Water Source Management Area Project’ had a 2023 budget of 64 million KRW, contributing to water source quality improvement by achieving 102.3% of the riverbank litter collection target through riverbank cleanup activities and collection of abandoned waste.
In other areas, the ‘Resident Support Project by Management Authorities’ had a 2023 budget of 15.609 billion KRW, contributing to income increase and welfare improvement of residents in regulated water source areas through installation and operation of village communal facilities, purchase of agricultural machinery and materials, village environment creation, and utility bill support.

Mayor Bang Se-hwan stated, “We will strive to improve the execution rate of all Han River Basin Management Fund projects and promote projects to become the best management authority,” and added, “We will continue to make efforts so that areas subject to overlapping regulations can develop through the Han River Basin Management Fund projects in the future.”
