Dongjak-gu Selected as 'Best District' for Collecting Chronic High-Amount Tax Arrears
Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 18th that it was selected as the Best District in the '2024 Previous Year Tax Collection Evaluation.' Every year, Seoul City comprehensively evaluates the collection performance of the 25 autonomous districts, reflecting the scale of arrears, and selects districts with outstanding results.
The district contributed to exceeding revenue targets and expanding local finances by efficiently and strongly pursuing tax collection from high-amount defaulters. Various policies have been implemented to establish a culture of sincere tax payment, including customized KakaoTalk tax collection, payment guidance and encouragement through LMS (Long Message Service), implementation of tax item-specific collection responsibility system, and formation of a task force team for collecting from high-amount defaulters.
Meanwhile, in January this year, the district established the 'Non-Tax Revenue Arrears Team' and is making every effort to improve the collection rate. Non-tax revenue arrears, previously handled by each department, were unified under the newly established team, and monthly arrears notices and payment guidance letters were sent collectively to defaulters to encourage voluntary payment.
Various administrative sanctions such as property seizure, public auction, and travel bans were enforced on chronic defaulters, and for high-amount defaulters owing more than 10 million won, home visits were conducted to encourage payment, strengthening collection activities.
