'Gwangju Emergency Action for Immediate Resignation of the Yoon Suk-yeol Administration and Social Reform,' a coalition of over 170 civic organizations in Gwangju, released a statement on the 17th, saying, "The Democratic Party has proposed a 'National Governance Stability Council' to the People Power Party and Acting Prime Minister Han Ducksoo, but this will only prolong the current state of governmental confusion and give rebellion forces an opportunity to strike back."
The Emergency Action stated, "The People Power Party immediately rejected this proposal," and added, "Lawmakers from the People Power Party are parroting President Yoon Suk-yeol's logic, claiming that Yoon, the mastermind behind the rebellion, is declaring martial law as a legitimate political act against the legislative coup by the opposition. Prime Minister Han has also made it clear that he opposes the Kim Keon-hee Special Prosecutor Act, which aims to investigate the Yoon administration's unjust and illegal actions that have devastated the Republic of Korea, as well as the Permanent Special Prosecutor Act to uncover the full extent of the rebellion."
The Emergency Action further stated, "Ultimately, the Democratic Party's proposal for a National Governance Stability Council is nothing but an anti-reform act that gives the rebellion forces, who betrayed the people for their own political gain, a pretext to regroup," and added, "The Democratic Party must not act as if President Yoon's removal is already a done deal when rebellion forces deeply rooted across the legislative, judicial, executive, and private sectors are eagerly waiting for a chance to strike back."
