Paju City Signs Agreement for Open Tourism Site Development in 2025

Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 16th that it signed a business agreement with the Korea Tourism Organization on the 12th for the Open Tourism Site Development Project.
This agreement was made at a meeting held to share future business directions among the 10 local governments selected as '2025 Open Tourism Sites' and to jointly consider and address the role of local governments in improving disability awareness.
Open Tourism Sites is a project promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization to activate barrier-free tourism. In the 2025 Open Tourism Site contest, 10 metropolitan and basic local governments nationwide, including Paju City, were selected. In the case of Paju City, the Third Tunnel of the DMZ and Dora Observatory were selected as open tourism sites.
Paju City plans to invest a total of 1.1 billion KRW, combining 500 million KRW of secured national funds and 600 million KRW of city funds, to significantly improve accessibility and convenience at tourist sites such as the Third Tunnel monorail.
The main projects include ▲replacement of the Third Tunnel monorail ▲installation of an electric observation wheel at Dora Observatory ▲improvement of guidance systems for the disabled and elderly, among others, aiming to provide an environment where tourists can move more safely and conveniently.

Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju City stated, “With the DMZ Peace Tourism Site being selected as an open tourism site this year, all major tourist sites in Paju City, including Majang Lake, Imjingak, and Gongneung Tourist Site, now have barrier-free tourism environments. We will do our best to enhance the value of world-class tourism resources such as the DMZ and ensure that all visitors, including vulnerable tourists, can conveniently use the tourist sites.”
