Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) held the launch ceremony of the ‘Jungnang-gu Resident Snow Removal Volunteer Group’ on the 13th at the central plaza of Jungnang-gu Office.
This event was a meaningful occasion to create a safe winter together with residents, encouraging voluntary participation from the local community and strengthening snow removal capabilities in preparation for heavy snowfall.
The Resident Snow Removal Volunteer Group is composed of a total of 2,636 members, including residents and members of professional organizations based on each neighborhood’s jurisdiction.
They will be deployed first to designated responsibility sections during snowfall to carry out snow removal work. In particular, they plan to focus snow removal activities on vulnerable areas such as mountain passes, bus stops, and school surroundings.
The volunteer group is also responsible for preemptive activities such as inspecting snow removal boxes and spreading snow removal agents in vulnerable areas before snowfall, as well as encouraging residents to participate in snow removal.
At the launch ceremony, over 160 volunteers attended, receiving training on the use of snow removal equipment and tools, and sharing safety management guidelines, reaffirming the importance of their activities.
During the event, residents chanted the slogan, “Let’s clear the snow in front of my house and my store together!” pledging active participation in snow removal activities.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “I deeply thank all members of the Resident Snow Removal Volunteer Group for actively participating in snow removal activities despite the cold weather,” adding, “We will do our best to minimize residents’ inconvenience caused by heavy snowfall and create a safe winter through snow removal activities conducted jointly by the public and private sectors.”
In addition to operating the Resident Snow Removal Volunteer Group, the district is preparing various winter measures. It has secured 207 snow removal machines and 1,400 tons of snow removal materials to actively carry out snow removal work, and has installed 364 snow removal agent storage boxes, 30 road heating cables (2,950m), and 3 automatic brine spraying devices (1,860m) to create safe streets.
