Gyeonggi Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 13th that the Yangju City Public Health Center was selected as an outstanding institution at the '2024 Atopy and Asthma Prevention Management Project Performance Competition' and received the Gyeonggi-do Atopy and Asthma Education Information Center Director's Award.
The Yangju City Public Health Center surveyed the prevalence of 4,220 cases among a total of 25 Atopy and Asthma Safe Schools, including 10 elementary schools, 3 kindergartens, and 12 daycare centers in the jurisdiction, to understand the actual condition of the diseases and establish systematic management plans.
As a result of the survey, the main prevalence rates among students in the area were ▲food allergy 9.8%, ▲anaphylaxis 0.5%, ▲atopic dermatitis 27.7%, ▲allergic rhinitis 41.8%, and ▲asthma 3.2%. Based on this, moisturizers and emergency kits were provided to 701 patients at safe schools, and guidance was given to respond to emergency situations.
The Public Health Center carried out multifaceted activities to prevent atopy and asthma, including ▲operating Atopy and Asthma Safe Schools, ▲providing atopy and asthma prevention education (for students, teachers, and parents), and ▲performing atopy and asthma prevention puppet shows for preschool children.
In addition, medical expenses (including medication costs) and moisturizers up to 200,000 KRW per year are being supported for children under 12 years old diagnosed with atopy and asthma from low-income families (below 80% of the median income) and multi-child families residing in Yangju City.
