Jeon Jin-sook: "Expel Lawmakers Who Miss Important Votes Like Impeachment"
Proposal of the "National Assembly Act" and the "National Assembly Member Recall Act"
Jeon Jin-sook, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Gwangju Buk-gu Eul, announced on the 13th that she has proposed the "National Assembly Act Amendment" to discipline lawmakers who deliberately abstain from plenary session votes, as well as the "National Assembly Member Recall Act" allowing the public to directly recall lawmakers who have betrayed public trust through dereliction of duty.
The two bills were proposed following the failure of the impeachment vote against President Yoon Seok-yeol on the 7th, which was disrupted by the deliberate absence of People Power Party members after the unconstitutional emergency martial law.
The amendment includes provisions to expel lawmakers who deliberately abstain from voting on critical issues related to upholding constitutional order, such as impeachment, and to allow the public to directly recall lawmakers who have betrayed public trust through dereliction of duty even during their term.
