Pocheon-si Cheongpum Rice Wins Grand Prize in 'Regional Specialized Varieties Category'

Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) announced on the 13th that Cheongpum rice from farmer Min Young-hong in Soheul-eup, Pocheon City, won the grand prize in the "Regional Specialized Variety Category" at the 7th Chamdream Gyeonggi Rice Quality Contest hosted by the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services.

View original imageIn the Regional Specialized Variety Category, 13 rice varieties developed as representative varieties from each city and county were submitted. After the first cultivation history and the second quality analysis evaluation, Pocheon City's 'Cheongpum' was selected as the most excellent variety.
'Cheongpum' is a regional specialized variety developed as part of the "Demand-Driven Food Crop Specialization Pilot Project" in cooperation with the Soheul Nonghyup Ddeunmo Farming Group from 2022 to 2023, following regional adaptation test cultivation by the Pocheon Agricultural Technology Center since 2021 to promote consumption through high-quality rice production and select a representative local variety.
Cheongpum rice is a domestically developed variety bred by the Rural Development Administration, classified as a mid-late maturing variety with heading around August 10, boasting the highest quality. The rice grains are clear and clean without chalky white cores, and it has strong resistance to rice blast, bacterial leaf blight, and rice stripe virus.
Farmer Min Young-hong, who received the grand prize, said, "I am very happy that the Cheongpum rice I cultivated won the grand prize at the quality contest, and I sincerely thank the Pocheon Agricultural Technology Center, Pocheon Rice Research Association, and Soheul Nonghyup for helping it establish itself as a regional variety."
A representative from the Pocheon Agricultural Technology Center stated, "We are very pleased that Pocheon's Cheongpum rice has achieved such great results. We will continue to focus on developing regional specialized varieties and enhance Pocheon’s agricultural competitiveness through expansion."
