Gyeonggi Office of Education Selected as 'Excellent Workplace' in Risk Assessment
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has been selected as an excellent workplace in the risk assessment conducted by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA), becoming the first metropolitan and provincial office of education nationwide to receive this recognition.
In October, the Provincial Office of Education applied for certification to KOSHA for its Southern Office building and underwent an on-site inspection in November. Subsequently, on December 4, it was officially recognized as an excellent workplace.
This achievement follows earlier recognitions: in May, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Training Institute was first acknowledged as an excellent workplace, and in October, both the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education International Education Institute and the Gyeonggi Ansan Office of Education were also recognized as excellent workplaces.
The excellent workplace recognition system for risk assessment is a program by KOSHA that objectively evaluates and certifies workplaces that prevent industrial accidents, including serious disasters. It is conducted by accepting applications from workplaces where employers identify and improve harmful and dangerous factors through labor-management cooperation.
The main evaluation criteria include ▲employer’s level of interest ▲implementation level of risk assessment ▲participation and understanding level of members ▲accident occurrence level, among others. KOSHA determines the final recognition of an excellent workplace after conducting an on-site inspection of the institution.
The Provincial Office of Education was recognized as an excellent workplace by continuously encouraging worker participation in identifying harmful and dangerous factors, establishing reduction measures, engaging in improvement activities, and conducting safety and health education.
Following the recognition of the Southern Office as an excellent workplace, the Provincial Office of Education plans to secure expertise in risk assessment for educational institutions and strive to further enhance safety culture awareness in the workplace. It also plans to expand the recognition of excellent workplaces to schools and other institutions within the province in the future.
Baeyounghwan, Director of School Safety at the Provincial Office of Education, stated, "The Provincial Office of Education is promoting risk assessments for affiliated institutions to prevent serious disasters and is thoroughly fulfilling its obligation to ensure safety and health. We will do our utmost to widely foster a safety culture awareness in school sites by expanding the recognition of excellent workplaces and preventing serious disasters."
