Namyangju City Successfully Hosts 'Sarang Haengbok Nanum-i Social Market' with People with Developmental Disabilities

View original imageThe event was attended by about 150 people, including Namyangju Mayor Joo Gwang-deok and heads of institutions and social organizations, and proceeded in the order of △karaoke talent show for people with disabilities △guest congratulatory speeches △shopping experience for people with disabilities.
This event, held for the first time this year, was planned to provide an opportunity for people with developmental disabilities from six Namyangju Disabled Daycare Centers to experience independent living in the community.
In particular, the participants experienced economic activities and social adaptation training by using mock currency to purchase about 20 types of goods worth a total of 5 million won at 10 sales booths.
Representative Lee Soon-hwa said in her commemorative speech, “I am pleased that this event seems to have been an opportunity to restore the self-esteem of people with severe disabilities and to share love and happiness,” and added, “I deeply thank those who attended despite their busy schedules and always support and help us.”
Mayor Joo Gwang-deok said, “We will do our best to increase opportunities for people with disabilities to experience independent living in the community and to create an environment related to job creation for people with disabilities so that it can lead to employment,” and added, “We will continuously strive to make Namyangju a inclusive city where people with and without disabilities live together.”
